PageMethods....exists different way?

Hi,
i just installed newest version of ASP.NET AJAX and i was looking for an alternative way to PageMethods. PageMethods, if i'm not wrong, work only in page and not in UserControl (i need for that).
I found AjaxNet Pro that permits that but i don't want use other dlls in my project.
Any idea how to call UserControl's Methods with ASP.NET AJAX?

Thanks in adavance ;)

I'm having the same issue. I want to use PageMethods to call my UserControl codebehind methods. Is there a way to do that?

Parser Error Message: The entry ScriptModule has already been added.

On my development system everything is running fine, when i publish to my beta server (SBS 2003 - *no* VS installed) I get the following error:

Parser Error Message: The entry 'ScriptModule' has already been added.

Removing this line resolves the issue but then presents me with various errors relating to not being able to load System.Web.Extensions... If i can understand why the first issue is occuring this would help! Any clues?

Hi,

I have exactly the same happening on my server, does anyone have a fix for this ?

Thanks
James

This can happen if there are two HttpModules named "ScriptModule". This can mysteriously happen if you are running a virtual directory under an asp application that already has the module defined. You can either remove the HttpModule declaration<add name="ScriptModule" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptModule, System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35"/> from the VD web.config, or all a remove node

<remove name="ScriptModule" />

just before adding it back.

Hi,

Excellent, thanks for the heads up.

James

That was an excellent post. Thank you for your help !

please let me know soon......

Parser Error Message: Type System.Web.UI.UpdatePanel does not have a public property named

Hi, first post...I am fairly new to ajax and was looking for some guidance on my problem. I installed the 3 files (Ajax 1.0 RC, Toolkit and the Futures December CTP). I wanted to convert an exsisting and working .net 2.0 sample aspx page into AJAX to learn how the updatepanels work. The page contains a bunch of datagrids that i wanted to place inside "updatepanels".

However, I keep getting the parser error"Type 'System.Web.UI.UpdatePanel' does not have a public property named 'datagrid'." whenever I placeanything inside the panels (table, div, tr...etc). I am sure its a pretty straight forward problem but not sure where to start looking.

If it matters, my solution in MS Visual Studio does not include a BIN folder. (something tells me i need it) I created a "New Website" and selected "AJAX-enabled website" and went from there. I could not find templates to start working from.

Thanks in advance!
Skimo!

<

asp:ScriptManagerID="ScriptManager1"runat="server"></asp:ScriptManager>

<asp:UpdatePanelID="UpdatePanel1"runat="server">

<

asp:datagridid="results"runat="server"GridLines="Horizontal"BorderWidth="2px"BorderColor="#f4f4f4"CellPadding="5"CellSpacing="0"AlternatingItemStyle-BackColor="#EAEAFF"ShowHeader="False"Width="100%"Autogeneratecolumns="False"AllowPaging="true"BorderStyle="Solid"PageSize="25"OnPageIndexChanged="results_Paging"><columns><asp:TemplateColumnItemStyle-Width="15%"><ItemTemplate>

<%

# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"createdate") %></ItemTemplate></asp:TemplateColumn><asp:TemplateColumnItemStyle-Width="15%"><ItemTemplate>

<%

# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"name") %></ItemTemplate></asp:TemplateColumn><asp:TemplateColumnItemStyle-Width="70%"><ItemTemplate>

<%

# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"comment") %></ItemTemplate></asp:TemplateColumn>

</columns><PagerStyleMode="NumericPages"HorizontalAlign="Center"/>

</

asp:datagrid>

</

asp:UpdatePanel>

you cant load datagrid in the page.load when its inside of UpdatePanel.

This is because UpdatePanel gets call first before the grid gets load. Thats is why it couldnt find it.

you can have button inside of updatepanel, when you click the button the it will do databind with grid

It is indeed a straightforward problem. Everything inside an UpdatePanel goes inside a "ContentTemplate", like this:

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:DataGrid ...>
</asp:DataGrid>
</ContentTemplate>
</asp:UpdatePanel>

Thank you so much!! I learned something :)

Does this mean I do not need to worry about the BIN folder not being there?

-Skimo

You won't need a bin folder to just use ASP.NET AJAX itself, since it gets installed globally for the machine.

If you use the AJAX Control Toolkit or the December Futures CTP, then your project will need to have the appropriate binaries in the bin folder.

I'm glad you're off and running... good luck exploring ASP.NET AJAX!

Great thanks for your help!

partial page update in a usercontrol on a master page

OK, I've installed AJAX Extensions, watched the tutorial video and tried to use the partial page update as follows: I have a user control which contains hyperlinks for paging back and forth and a datalist which displays the current page of products: <asp:UpdatePanelID="UpdatePanel1"runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <asp:HyperLinkID="hLink_Previous"CssClass="paging_Text"Visible="false"runat="server">Previous</asp:HyperLink> <asp:LabelID="label_Paging"CssClass="paging_Text"Visible="false"runat="server"/> <asp:HyperLinkID="hLink_Next"CssClass="paging_Text"Visible="false"runat="server">Next</asp:HyperLink> <asp:DataListID="dataList_Products"RepeatColumns="2"RepeatDirection="Horizontal"runat="server"EnableViewState="False"OnItemCommand="dataList_Products_ItemCommand"> <ItemTemplate> <tableclass="dataList_Products_Table"cellpadding="0"align="left"> <trclass="dataList_Products_Table_Row"> <tdalign=centerclass="dataList_Products_Table_Cell_1"> <ahref='Product.aspx?P=<%# Eval("ProductID")%>'> <imgclass="small_Image"src='ProductImages/<%# Eval("Image1FileName")%>'/> </a> </td> <tdclass="dataList_Products_Table_Cell_2"> <aclass="product_Name"href='Product.aspx?P=<%# Eval("ProductID")%>'> <%# Eval("Name")%> </a> <br/> <spanclass="product_Description"> <%# Eval("Description")%> <br/> <br/> Price: </span> <spanclass="product_Price"> <%# Eval("Price","{0:C}")%> </span> <br/> <asp:ButtonID="btn_AddToCart"Text="Add to Cart"CssClass="small_Button_Text"CommandArgument='<%# Eval("ProductID")%>'runat="server"/> </td> </tr> </table> </ItemTemplate> </asp:DataList> </ContentTemplate></asp:UpdatePanel> I use this within the contentPlaceHolder on the Master page. I want only this bit to update when I navigate between pages but looking at the triggers collection, I can only see the datalist and ScriptManager controls - how do I hook into the previous and next page hyperlinks and their onClick event to enable the page update ? Thanks AR

Hi,

HyperLink control doesn't have click event.

You can use LinkButton control that has a similar layout like hyperlink to achieve so.

Hope this helps.
